The Scoop

They were born on April 15th of 2000.  They're half Holland Lop and Half Rex. They don't know they're mutts, though.   Originally, Heidi was Floyd.  Tim at one point said, "Floyd hops like a girl."  The vet agreed.

Marvin and Heidi are brother and sister, but they don't know that either, if you catch my drift. Wink. Wink.

They may not know they're mutts and they may not know their gender or even the fact that they're brother and sister but, they do know one thing.  They love to eat bananas.  You can hear  their lips smacking as they chomp.  Heidi's fur twitches because she's so happy.  They also love kale, mint, cilantro, and dandelion greens.  They don't like going back in their cage and they really, really, really hate being picked up.  If I have to pick one of them up they won't take raisins from my fingers for two whole days!

Doesn't she look so sweet!Heidi Ho - There was a time when I thought she was the sweetest little bunny that wasn't made of chocolate.  I've changed my assessment.  It happened in large part because I recently witnessed her rear up on her hind legs and bap her brother up along side his head.  I was shocked.  Scandalized! She then made off with the piece of paper he was chewing on.   Marvin - once his ears stopped flopping back and forth - hopped after her and cleaned her ears.  I now realize she is a Queen Bunny(Marvin is so good.  He's wonderful at keeping the peace - if not the piece of paper he liked.) Also, Queen Heidi doesn't like me to initiate nose petting.  She will come up to me and present her nose when she's ready.  Heidi can be extraordinarily persistent as I've known her to follow me around until I got it right. Then, she'll kick out her back legs (see picture below) and hunker down for a LONG ear rub and nose pet.   Also, notice the pictures on this page.  Almost all of them feature Miss P, as I call her for Miss Precious, with one eye watching the camera.  She wants to know what's going on at all times.  When I clean the cage, she hops right in the middle to keep a good eye on me.

Marvin Martian - He's a wonderful rabbit and a hoot to watch.  He's curious and into everything.  He is tougher to photograph because he tends to move around a lot and Heidi likes to follow him.  I should have called him Attila the Bun.   The new movie slogan would be, "Attila the Bun - everybody follows him and the women clean his ears."

He likes to hop up on my bed, arrange the blankets around himself and get a really good, comfortable view of the world.  I've started calling him 'The Colonel" in honor of his attitude.  For somebody who's just 4.5 pounds he is certainly got chutzpah!

He's also a very smart rabbit.  He already knows the word no and even knows how to sneak behind my back to do things (like chew on the baby gate that keeps them out of the living room) he knows he's not supposed to do. I had to laugh the other day when I told him "no" and he started flipping his ears around like he was really, really  irritated with me.  He 'flipped' away from the book he was attacking and ignored me for about an hour.  Any doubt I once had about whether he understood me or not completely vanished!

Having said that, however, I have to admit that he's a very good  little guy who will actually clean my entire face.  He has been known to snort and thump if I stop him before he feels he's done a good job.
